Blooming Living Wall

July 12, 2011 ·

Our living wall is blooming like crazy right now!

Once done flowering, those individual plants will die and I’ll plug in the gaps with new sedums.

I’m also really loving how the steel frame is rusting; it complements our dark brown fence so nicely!

  1. I am currious about your soil mixture. I have a wreath that I have been working on for the past year and usual mix of potting soil does not seem to hold the plants in well. Thoughts?

  2. P.S. Your’s is beautiful !!!!

  3. Hi Cat,

I used a cactus soil mix. The key is to find a soil that is free draining!

However, it is not the soil that holds the plants in place, it is the roots. When you plant your wreath you should let it grow horizontally (e.g., on a table) for about 10-12 weeks (this also depends on what type of plants you are using) before hanging it up. That way the plants will have plenty of time to establish roots and will be more likely to stay in place. Keep us posted on how you make out.

    Good luck!

  4. Aww…it turned out so well! Awesome job, Chris!
